Keren Ann - My Name is Trouble
Paris- and New York-based Dutch-Israeli singer Keren Ann Zeidel. Her new, ninth(-ish) album reveals a hungry artist who can turn her talents to pretty much anything: songs of spectral lust, feminised Kraftwerk-isms, louche pop-funk, regular guitar songs and plenty more. Her voice is a slender, gorgeous and expressive thing and 101 has the quality of a hazy and supremely sexy daydream. All The Beautiful Girls in particular zeroes in on that precise mood of melancholy ecstasy that Leonard Cohen made his own – and makes you realise that maybe it isn’t his own after all. What would Cohen be like if he had been born female? Perhaps he’d be like Keren Ann.
