Holy Ghost! - Wait and See
With LCD Soundsystem retiring and Tim Goldsworthy leaving active duties at the label, DFA stands at a crossroads.
The New York based label has sat at the cutting edge of electronic music for a decade, stylishly mixing techno, Krautrock and post-punk. Newcomers such as Holy Ghost! are witness to a new generation of producers who accept DFA not as newcomers, but as a landmark.
Signed to the label last year, Holy Ghost! spent the bulk of 2010 out on the road. Supporting LCD Soundsystem, Chromeo and more the duo’s immediate style belies the depth of their production.
A series of choice cuts carved out a strong reputation, with work beginning on a debut album last year. A deeply DFA affair, guests include Luke Jenner of The Rapture and Nancy Whang - once of LCD Soundsystem.
Self-titled the album moves beyond the club-based music which made their name. Holy Ghost! want to entrance, to probe further while still making fans move out on the dancefloor.
Returning to the UK for a series of dates with Cut Copy, Holy Ghost! will match up with one of 2011’s breathrough stories. Could the DFA troupe follow suit? Wait and see…
